چکیده

The purpose of this research is to evaluate new materials as gain media for midinfrared (MIR) solid-state lasers. MIR lasers are of significant current interest for several applications including laser remote sensing of bio-chemical agents, medical surgery, fundamental spectroscopy, and biophotonics. In this project, Cobalt (Co) doped ZnSe windows and CdTe crystals were investigated as MIR laser media. These materials were Co doped through a thermal process called diffusion doping. The optical properties of Co: ZnSe and Co: CdTe were investigated through transmission spectroscopy and emission spectroscopy. The obtained spectroscopic data of Co: ZnSe and Co: CdTe will be discussed for applications in MIR solid-state lasers.

Next-generation mid-infrared sources

The mid-infrared (mid-IR) is a wavelength range with a variety of technologically vital applications in molecular sensing, security and defense, energy conservation, and potentially in free-space communication. The recent development and rapid commercialization of new coherent mid-infrared sources have spurred significant interest in the development of mid-infrared optical systems for the above...

Novel diode laser-based sensors for gas sensing applications.

The development of compact spectroscopic gas sensors and their applications to environmental sensing will be described. These sensors employ mid-infrared difference-frequency generation (DFG) in periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) crystals pumped by two single-frequency solid state lasers such as diode lasers, diode-pumped solid state, and fiber lasers. Ultrasensitive, highly selective, a...

BROADBAND MID-INFRARED SOLID-STATE LASERS Broadband Mid-Infrared Lasers

A survey of broadband Co2+and Cr2+-based lasers is presented. These mid-IR sources, operating in the very interesting “molecular fingerprint” region between ∼1.6 and 3.5μm offer the broadest bandwidth from all solid-state vibronic lasers. The emphasize is made on Cr2+-doped lasers, which have not only the widest and the highest gain, but also operate at room-temperature and produce the shortest...

Optimization of MBE Growth Parameters for GaAs-based THz Quantum Cascade Lasers

Solid state terahertz (THz) lasers were made possible through the rapid progress in quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) [1]. Despite the advances in mid-infrared (MIR) QCLs [2], THz QCLs remain difficult to fabricate. The tolerances in alloy composition, layer thickness, and doping are lower for THz QCLs than their MIR counterparts. Typical THz structures can require more than a day to grow by MBE an...

Continuous-wave Optical Parametric Oscillators

Since the publication of an earlier review on optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) in 2000,1 there has been remarkable progress in the technological development and applications of OPO devices. Once considered an impractical approach for the generation of coherent radiation, OPOs have now been finally transformed into truly viable, state-of-the-art light sources capable of accessing difficult ...
